Erik Turtev (Varkocs group leader):
For me, Martin Oberta is one of the best jaw harp smiths in the world. His tools are by far the best I've ever tried. They are strong, durable and incredibly loud. Within the framework of the 2022 International Jaw harp Festival and Congress in Berlin, Martin, Júlia Viktória Vaczulka and I represented the Slovakian jaw harp music and culture. In Berlin, even the world's most skilled jaw harp virtuosos got acquainted with Martin's work and they fell in love with his excellent instruments as soon as they tried them.
Radoslav Fulier (co-founder of the Czech music festival "Den brumle"):
Martin's jaw harp production is completely different from what is normally seen in Europe. I have tried dozens of jaw harps made by him with various parameters, so I dare to say that he is one of the most versatile jaw harp makers not only in Europe. The variability of his jaw harps and their types is astounding. One can choose from a whole range of instruments - from large and loud ones, as well as from delicate and petite ones with a classic inconspicuous sound, with a low or high tone, there are "singing" instruments that excel in melodic playing, as well as pieces suitable more as a rhythmic accompaniment, whose sound it is so striking that it does not get lost even in the noise or outside by the fire. A typical feature of his instruments are very loud aliquot tones, an attribute more typical of instruments from the eastern regions of Europe and Asia. Martin does not copy anyone, he is stubborn and self-taught person. And thanks to his determined work and endless hours spent in the workshop, his jaw harps are original and reach a world level.
